Embla and the Karidotters make modern, queer outlaw country and loves to have fun with expanding the rules of the genre as well as paying hommage to it.
Their debut album Hello, I’m Embla (2022) won the Spellemann award (Norwegian Grammy) for best country album and took the band all over Norway and to Stagecoach, California in 2023. Their second album Off Leash (2024) follows no rules and is rawer and cooler and has the best cover you’ve ever seen by the way. Their third album The Fool (2026) is the first Norwegian queer country album.
Their bandleader Embla Karidotter’s lyrics are humorous, self-deprecating and melancholic and her twangy voice has a perfected huskiness.
Embla and the Karidotters is the project of former Razika drummer Embla Karidotter. After the successful Norwegian indie combo was put on hiatus, Embla gathered her “Karidotters” from talented neighboring bands Slomosa, Honningbarna, Sløtface and Aiming for Enrike.
Embla and the Karidotters are: Embla Karidotter, Marie Moe, Simen Følstad Nilsen, Nils Jørgen Nilsen and Benjamin Rø Haavelsrud.
