A suggestion commonly given to aspiring bands is that they should pick a musical genre and subgenre, and stick to it. That may work for some, but the Lehigh Valley's evolution 9 (evol9.com) is just not capable of such a thing. Call it genre deficit disorder, call it creative claustrophobia, but evolution 9 wants to mix it up, to transform, to evolve, hence the name.
 
Despite that mission statement, e9 can’t help but consider some genres a bit more equal than others. Original melodic 60s pop-rock is a favorite, and evolution 9 will certainly be painting and coating many colors with that swirly brush on occasion, but will not be restricted to one sonic palette.
 
Will the eclectic approach work? Bands that try to please everyone might end up satisfying hardly anyone. So maybe e9 will someday squeeze into a particular square on the music chessboard. But the hope is that the journey is enjoyable and entertaining, regardless of the route or destination.
 
evolution 9 debuted with the ballad "Who Will You Love", followed later in 2021 by the jangle-pop gem “Similarities”. An album’s worth of songs have followed. As of June 2025, "We Said Goodbye" has had over 22,000 streams on Spotify, while "Who Will You Love" has over 20,000 and "Gone But Never Far" over 15,000.
