Fado Bicha is an artivist project, created in 2017 by Lila Fadista (voice, lyrics) and João Caçador (instrumentation). Using fado as a versatile tool (going beyond the strict rules that were imposed to it), Fado Bicha gives voice to the narratives of the LGBTI community in Portugal, which are still so invisible. It is a political project of representativeness and questioning of social and artistic barriers, on the main premise of subverting heteronormativity. Even more so when fado is nurtured by a very traditionalist community. Changing famous poems and writing new ones is one of the processes through which Fado Bicha creates new stages for the experimentation of alternative narratives to sexuality and gender through music.
