Despite producing some of the biggest South Asian hits of the early 2020s, there's a real sense of mystique about producer Gminxr, aka Gagundeep Singh Randhawa. Little is known about the enigmatic Victoria, BC-based artist, besides being a founding member of the legendary Run-Up Records crew with AP Dhillon, Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon, his music speaks for itself. Whether it's the intricate keys and clapping 808 percussion on Dhillon and Gurinder Gill's breakout 2020 hit "Brown Munde", or the shimmering, space-age synths of "No Excuses", Gminxr's minimalist, impressionistic production work is a contrast to the prevailing boldness of Punjabi pop music. Gminxr is at the leading edge of Punjabi rap's ongoing global takeover.
