Even though the members of Greyarea have their own history that's placed in New York hardcore, their debut in 1998 released an unexpected twist of driving, melodic pop-punk that doesn't completely sever from their roots. Consisting of ex-Warzone members Vinny Value (drums) and Jay Lehroff (guitar), former Black Train Jack, Token Entry, and In Your Face guitarist Ernie -- just Ernie -- (vocals/guitar), and former Crown of Thorns bassist Steve O'Brien, Greyarea combined their influences of the Bad Brains, Minor Threat, the Cro-Mags, and the Descendants. This mesh would eventually be showcased in early 1999 as Victory Records released Greyarea's self-titled full-length. Their second album, Fanbelt Algebra, followed in the summer of 2000. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
