Hindarfjäll is a Swedish musical constellation founded by Nils Edström in 2015, emerging from the coastal landscapes of Gothenburg. The group seeks to bring the essence of pre-Christian Scandinavia to life through evocative compositions and poetic storytelling. Rather than imitating the past, their work enters into a dialogue with their cultural heritage — a search for thoughts, values, and ways of being that still hold meaning in the present.
Rooted in the Nordic Way known as Siðr, Hindarfjäll’s unique sound blends traditional and contemporary instruments with influences from Swedish folk music and cinematic elements. Rich vocal harmonies, dynamic arrangements, and strong melodies form the foundation of their authentic expression — a modern creation shaped by their culture and surrounding nature.
Hindarfjäll does not aim to reconstruct the music of the Viking Age. Instead, their music becomes a vessel for reflecting on how people once understood life — their responsibilities, their reasoning and actions, and their place within a vast and multifaceted world. The group focuses on elements such as skaldic poetry, ethics, cosmology, and ancestral knowledge of nature. Through these, they explore the interplay between human and Gods, rites and customs, honour and kinship, and the boundary between myths and knowledge. These themes continue to weave through their work, allowing each song to echo with both memory and inquiry.
