Dancehall/reggae singer IamStylezMusic was born Sheldon Ellington in the St. Catherine Parish, Jamaica, not far from Kingston. He moved around Jamaica a lot as a child and in the mid-2000’s, Ellington moved to the United States and formed the pop-minded dancehall duo Stylez N Kardo. The group did well, supporting bigger names in the dancehall scene and making some waves of their own before disbanding in 2012. While Kardo went on to pursue studies, Ellington rebranded himself as IamStylezMusic and set forth on a solo path. Following a string of lower-profile singles, EPs, and other releases, Stylez gained a lot of crossover traction when he collaborated with R&B/pop superstar <a href="spotify:artist:5y2Xq6xcjJb2jVM54GHK3t">John Legend</a> on their early 2017 track "Light Up the Night." This track opened the door for a whole new audience to hear Stylez dancehall pop hybrid sound and paved the way for the release of his album Back to My Roots, which appeared later that year and went on to top reggae charts. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
