Innanet James doesn't believe in quantity over quality. "You see Quebec Place, it has been a minute but the body of work speaks for itself," the rapper says. "People tell me that it's playable from beginning to end that means a lot to me; you don't really get that in today's climate of music."

Even though music was in his blood — his father was a musician and played Congo drums for a few GoGo bands — becoming a rapper was never a goal. However, that changed in December 2015 when a friend paid for James’ first studio sessions. One of the tracks recorded was "Summer," a song that would change his life and land him rave reviews on Pigeon & Planes, Pitchfork, and XXL. By the time his debut 10-song EP, Quebec Place, was released in August 2016, eight months after he began taking rap seriously, he went from an unknown community college student to one of DMV's brightest stars. He performed at Bonnaroo 2017 and signed a label deal with HighRes Global/Rostrum Records in 2018.

Almost two years removed from Quebec Place — a project named after a street in uptown Washington D.C. that Innanet James felt he grew into a man — the young spitta sees the cries online for his new project, Keep it Clean. The forthcoming project features names such as Pusha T, Rexx Life Raj, Reva Devito, and Taliwhoah. He's been carefully prepping this project by fine-tuning every detail to perfection. Timeless music can't be rushed.
