Io

Io is an English experimental metal band from Birmingham, England. The band consists of Al Lawson (guitar/vocals), Stu Atkins (guitar), Dave Wright (drums), and Steve Wood (bass).

The band formed in 2006. They have released an EP (itwaslostinthefirewestarted, 2007) and three albums: Monolith in 2008, Materioptikon in 2010 and Our Disintegrating Museum in 2013. While the first two releases were instrumental post rock in the style of Mogwai, explosions in the sky and Red Sparowes; subsequent releases showed the band incorporating vocals and electronics moving away from 'post rock' and developing their own progressive metal / post-hardcore sound. The band has toured around the UK and Europe and supported bands such as maybeshewill, and so i watch you from afar, god is an astronaut, talons and lite.

Io took a break in 2015 to concentrate on other things but continued to play music together in different forms. In 2022 it felt like the right time to get the band back together. A new albums is expected in 2024 and the band will start playing shows in 2023. Total rock action is expected.
