The son of Motown composer Jerry B. Long Sr., Kokane began his journey as a flagship artist for Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records. He helped architect the G-Funk sound, co-writing for N.W.A and Above the Law. His 1994 masterpiece, Funk Upon a Rhyme, remains a cult classic that showcased his unique style long before his massive feature run.
Today, Kokane has embraced full independence. He runs Bud E Boy Recordz alongside his wife and children, turning the label into a thriving family business that controls his vast catalog. Refusing to rest on nostalgia, he continues to drop ambitious solo projects like the Dr. Kokanstine series and King of GFunk. From the golden era of Ruthless to the independent sovereignty of Bud E Boy, Kokane remains a solo giant who built the West Coast sound with his own two hands.
