There’s a stillness in the sound of Leading Edge – one shaped by folk tradition, soft rhythms and the kind of lyrical honesty that only comes from life itself. It’s music rooted in Nordic calm and touched by Americana warmth, where quiet thoughts gradually unfold into melody.

Formed in 2012 in the university town of Lund by singer and songwriter Anna Johannisson, the group began as a creative collaboration among friends. Since then, the band has grown into a tight collective with a shared language – anchored in acoustic, shaped by countless gigs, and inspired by artists like The Tallest Man on Earth, The Paper Kites, and Sigur Rós.

Their songs tend to start simple. A guitar pattern. A lyric fragment. From there, they grow – sometimes slowly, sometimes all at once – into something textured and melodic, always grounded in something real. After releasing music under the label Rexius Records – including the album Northern Lights (2020) and singles like Radio Shadow and The Secrets You Hide – the band is now fully independent and following their own pace.

Their new single Cynical Mind, recorded with producer Tobias Ekqvist at Studio Sunnanå, is the first song from the band’s new lineup – written together during a weekend that was equal parts playful and honest. It’s a dynamic track about emotional weight, boundaries, and learning when to let go.

With Cynical Mind, Leading Edge turns a page – not to start over, but to keep going, on their own terms.
