Mango Street Papa is inspired by the book “The House on Mango Street”. This book entails a story about a Mexican American young girl who moves into a house on Mango Street. Life on Mango Street is difficult, making her want to move out the first chance she gets. Our character Papa also resides on this Mango Street.
He has the physical appearance of Vincent Van Gogh. He works hard everyday trying to sell fruit in his fruit stall, although he is a poor salesman and is unsuccessful with his business. However, he lives his life happily and all the kids in the neighborhood loves him. Our band members are inspired by this character Papa. Even though life is challenging and full of ups and downs, we are just like Papa, wanting to live our lives happily full of music and dance.
