R&B singer Mateo, born Iman Jordan, hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. The grandson of session guitarist Fred Jordan (Freddie King, James Brown), he attended and graduated from Morehouse College prior to moving to New York, and then Los Angeles, where he established his music career. He signed to MySpace's label but remained there for less than two years, long enough to release some mixtapes. Krucial Noise then picked him up and released a mixtape, Love & Stadiums, in 2011. After jumping to Interscope, Mateo continued to work with producer Kerry "Krucial" Brothers. Suite 823, yet another mixtape, was released in 2012. A five-track EP, We've Met Before, followed in 2013. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
