Matt Fishel is an award-winning independent music artist, songwriter & producer based in London, UK. Since establishing his own record label (Young Lust) in 2009, Matt's carved a unique niche for himself with his individual brand of queer-themed rock music & videos, garnering millions of streams & YouTube views along the way.
Matt’s music combines elements of rock, punk, alternative, pop & singer-songwriter storytelling; his narrative songs & candid lyrics deal openly with the joys, pains & experiences of growing up gay & being an out & proud gay man.
A passionate advocate for social justice & political change, Matt creates unashamedly positive expressions of gay identity through his work. His 2013 music videos for <a href="spotify:track:2XYWgfVEI64tTKl4NCxWIQ" data-name="Radio-Friendly Pop Song">Radio-Friendly Pop Song</a> & <a href="spotify:track:0wppePm3CoJZYdnKn9BdXQ" data-name="When Boy Meets Boy">When Boy Meets Boy</a> went viral, gaining him international recognition for his humorous yet acerbic commentary on institutional homophobia in the entertainment industry, alongside his quirky, alternative queer love songs. 2018's <a href="spotify:track:3z4Y93JsOnPfka7Zdq06xh" data-name="LGBTQIA (A New Generation)">LGBTQIA (A New Generation)</a> is "a storming queer rock anthem" (Gay Times) paying tribute to LGBTQ+ pioneers.
Across 16 years & 4 studio albums so far, Matt’s worked with a diverse range of musicians, film directors & visual artists to bring his queer stories to the world, all the while remaining fiercely independent.
