McLarnan is a post-rock–inspired instrumental ambient project by Aaron McLarnan, an Iowa-based artist navigating life’s ache and wonder through slow-burning, cinematic sound. He conjures a mood-heavy blend of atmospheric guitars, field recordings, minimalist textures, ghostlike melodies that echo long after the final note, and forgotten voices half-buried in static. Each song feels like a memory trying not to fade.
Drawing inspiration from the vast skies of Explosions in the Sky, the aching swells of Sigur Rós, the emotional weight of This Will Destroy You and the distorted layers of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. McLarnan’s music is patient, meditative, and deeply human. Each track is a sacred pause — a quiet place to feel what you’ve been too busy or too broken to let rise. Created from the space between grief and hope, much of his work is shaped by personal loss, spiritual growth, and the weight of starting over. Still, it points toward light.
McLarnan’s work is intentionally instrumental — designed to say what words never quite can. Within each ambient swell and distorted loop lies a deeply personal message: you are not alone. These compositions are offerings, meant for night drives, prayer, dissociation, healing — or just surviving one more hour.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about honesty.
