Memória de Peixe is a Portuguese alternative indie band from Lisbon, featuring Miguel Nicolau (guitar), Pedro Melo Alves (drums), and Filipe Louro (bass). Meaning "fish memory," it was originally based on 8-second guitar loops, a signature approach heard on their first two albums as a guitar-drums duo — "Memória de Peixe" (2012) with Nuno Oliveira and "Himiko Cloud" (2016) with Marco Franco. Both records were hailed as some of the best Portuguese albums of the year, reaching #1 on national radio charts, being featured on BBC6 by Hew Stephens, The Line of The Best Fit (UK) or Les Inrockuptibles (France) and leading to performances at Liverpool Sound City (UK), Coquetel Molotov (Brazil), Nilüfer Müzik Festivali (Turkey), Primavera Sound (Portugal), Milhões de Festa (Portugal), Ancienne Belgique (Belgium), L’Aéronef (France), Sala Apolo (Spain), and Rockwood Music Hall (USA).
With the release of their new album, "III," this power trio has refined their experimental indie pop sensibility, blending the original math-rock and improvisation-based sound with new influences from jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music. This latest chapter also marks the band's deepened commitment to a fully audiovisual narrative, weaving together parallel worlds and strange coincidences, traversing aquatic depths, witnessing ghosts, messages from the future, birds crossing dimensions, and the awakening of the undead.
