A discreet but indelible figure in the Portuguese musical scene, Tó Trips is reaching close to four decades of activity, in a rare case of blessed resilience and constant reinvention.
At the start of this century with Dead Combo, his duo with the late Pedro Gonçalves, was the starting point for such a vision. Assuming themselves as “music with Lisbon inside”, for 18 years – they created a reflection of that same Lisbon, opened to other cultures, a host of different languages and histories.
On his debut solo album 2009 – Guitarra 66 – became openly biographical. A raw and luminous record, projected an intuitive multicultural crossing, both real and imaginary. In 2015, six years after his first solo venture - Guitarra Makaka: Danças a um Deus Desconhecido.
In 2023, Tó Trips releases his third album, titled Popular Jaguar, a record filled with mystery, silence and places where we can find geographical references, creating a living and poetic portrait of doleful chords and languid notes.
In 2025 - Tó Trips & Fake Latinos. A handful of songs, of places of life stories, sometimes darker, sometimes brighter, more rhythmic, sometimes more jazzy, always with one foot in Lisbon and the other outside. Where the way of playing guitar from the past meets today's.
His music has always been a powerful means of dissent for him, being able to transform personal feelings into forms of fulfilment and protest. Being him self in the world with his music and his guitar.
