Michelle David & The True-tones stand tall as one of today’s most vital forces in gospel-infused soul. Fronted by New York–born powerhouse Michelle David, the band blends timeless grooves with modern urgency, unshakable authenticity, and heartfelt spirit.
Raised in the church, David began singing at just four years old and was touring with her first group, The Mission of Love, by age five. Her commanding voice took her from Broadway (Mama, The Sound of Motown, Glory of Gospel, Mahalia) to studio sessions with icons like Diana Ross and Michael Bolton. Since forming The True-tones with longtime collaborators Paul Willemsen, Onno Smit, and Bas Bouma, David has brought her firebrand vocals to seven acclaimed albums and stages across Europe — from Pinkpop to North Sea Jazz, London Jazz Festival, and even the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Their work has earned international acclaim: The Gospel Sessions was nominated for an Edison Award, Truth & Soul (2020) was crowned Album of the Year by BBC 6 Music’s Craig Charles and Album of the Month by Radio France’s FIP, while Brothers & Sisters (2024) became a breakout release on Record Kicks, celebrated by Rolling Stone France, KEXP, Jazzthing, De Volkskrant, and BBC 6 Music.
On February 27, 2026, Michelle David & The True-tones release their boldest statement yet: Soul Woman.
