Mint Cherry

MINT CHERRY are a alternative indie-pop duo from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The band formed in late 2017, consisting of Freya and Eugene.
In early 2017, Eugene was searching for musicians to work with for a new music project. After numerous ineffective searches, on a rainy day in November 2017, being caught in a quiet café and having a cup of coffee with Freya, the idea of Mint Cherry was born.
Freya, was at that time, picking back up singing again. After attending a few short vocals classes to warm up her vocals, Freya was looking to explore her singing and songwriting in the Chinese language, a language which she grew up with.
Eugene, on the other hand, was a partial banana". He was brought up in a English-speaking household, and only started to speak more in the Mandarin language only a couple of years ago. He had also only recently discovered local Chinese music, and bands from Taiwan/Hong Kong, so the idea of working with a vocalist in the Chiinese language was intriguing.
Mint Cherry fuses indie driven guitars, retro sounding synthesizers, electronic drums, with dreamy vocals; To bring you to a place in your mind where you could dance in slow motion, with no judgement, or just for you to float on the soft clouds of minty, dreamy, music.
Their debut EP 自由飞翔 (which means “Flying Free”) was released on 19th April, 2019.
