From Lisboa, Portugal, Minta & The Brook Trout make music about everyday things, like breakups and furniture.
Their songs, which tend to be short, poetic about things prosaic and profound, and good for keeping you company, are written by Francisca Cortesão, who as a singer-songwriter has also been known has Minta, since releasing debut EP You in 2008.
Along with Mariana Ricardo and a talented crew of other Lisboa-based musicians who are collectively known as The Brook Trout —
Margarida Campelo, Tomás Sousa (also of You Can't Win, Charlie Brown) and Afonso Cabral— , Minta has released four studio albums, as well as a collection of versions of beloved songs Out Of Washington State, originally by Kimya Dawson Mirah or Mount Eerie.
Minta & The Brook Trout have played major festivals and small living rooms, from Lisboa to San Francisco, and their music has been released and distributed by independent labels in Portugal, the US and Japan.
The band is part of a solid Portuguese scene which includes acts such as Tape Junk Monday, Bruno Pernadas and Benjamim
The band’s 5th studio album is in the works, and will be released by louva-a-deus, a new studio, booking agency and label run by Francisca Cortesão and Afonso Cabral, in early 2025.
