Mônica Salmaso’s been establishing her career as a relevant MPB singer. Since her debut in 1989 she’s been performing with and recording songs by artists like Edu Lobo and Guinga.
In 1995, her first album, Afro-Sambas with Paulo Bellinati, had a collection of Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes's production, the Afro-Sambas.
In 1998 she recorded "Trampolim" and joined the Orquestra Popular de Câmara whom she recorded 2 CDs with. In 1999 “Voadeira”, gave her the APCA Award as “The Best Singer of the Year”.
In 2004, Iaiá was a huge success because of the version for “Menina, amanhã de manhã (Tom Zé/Perna)”. In 2007, “Noites de gala, samba na rua”, a collection of Chico Buarque's songs, was nominated to the Grammy Latino Awards as “The Best MPB Album”.
“Alma Lírica Brasileira” (2011) was nominated to the Grammy Latino Awards. Salmaso won the 23rd Brazilian Music Award as “The Best MPB Singer” as well. “Corpo de Baile” (2014) gave her the 26th Brazilian Music Award in 2015 as “The Best MPB Singer”.
From 2017 to 2022 she recorded albums like Caipira (2017), Estrada Branca (2017), Japan tour 2019 (2022), Canto Sedutor (2022) together with Dori Caymmi and Milton (2022) along with André Mehmari.
During the pandemic, “Ô de Casas”, homemade videos of duets with over 150 artists, was a hit in the social media. In 2022 she was invited to Chico Buarque’s “Que tal um samba?” tour.
Her new concert “Minha Casa” opening night in September 2023 brings her back home after the pandemic.
