Collaborating with legendary artists like Etta James and Koko Taylor, he made his mark as a producer, arranger, and performer, crafting a versatile catalog that ranged from fiery vocal tracks to smooth jazz instrumentals.

During the 1960s, Higgins worked with One-Derful! Records before expanding his reach through collaborations with Chess, Blue Note, MCA, Dunhill, and Buddha. His flexible style extended to film, composing the soundtrack for Pam Grier’s Sheba, Baby.

Higgins also founded Sack Records, a label that highlighted his distinctive artistry. Though his work remains overlooked by mainstream audiences, his recordings are treasured by soul and jazz aficionados, cementing his legacy as a pioneer in the genre.
