The epitome of adorable, Hong Kong's My Little Airport is a boy/girl indie pop duo that makes gentle twee music in English and Cantonese. Even more whimsical and playful than typical soft bands fitting the indie mold -- say, Belle & Sebastian -- many of their songs are comprised of inside jokes and lighthearted abandonment. With lyrics that read like pages from a diary, their wit shines through in song titles like "Leo, Are You Still Jumping Out of Windows in Expensive Clothes" and "I Don't Know How to Download Good AV Like Iris Does," a sweet little ditty about watching pornography on the Internet. Nicole and P met in Shuren University in 2001 while studying journalism and communication. After classes they would practice guitar at their friend's music store, which, like many of their other day-to-day rituals, would later be penciled into song; in this instance it would take form as "Josephine's Shop." After their first show at the Warehouse Teenage Club two years later, they started establishing some success in the Hong Kong indie scene. In 2004, using nothing more than electric violin, guitar, and vocals, they recorded a sweet minimalist album titled The OK Thing to Do on Sunday Is to Toddle in the Zoo and released it on their own label, Harbour. A year later, after releasing four other bands' records and receiving some radio play of their own, Becoz I Was Too Nervous at That Time followed. Taking their sound abroad, they joined Elefant Records in 2007, and the Spain-based label released a 14-track compilation of tunes from their first two albums titled Zoo Is Sad, People Are Cruel, and My Little Airport made plans to hop a plane and tour Europe soon after. ~ Jason Lymangrover, Rovi
