Nu Genea is the artistic project from musicians/djs Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina. The inspirational key comes from a historiographic investigation on dance music since its first steps: following the music routes around the world, Nu Genea collected the sonic echoes that, down the centuries, have touched the shores of Napoli, their hometown and inexhaustible source of cross-cultural sensitivity. Their meticolous research stands out for exploring uncharted territories, scouting the music from the past and elaborating it in an original groovy equation fully pervaded by disco, funk, boogie, electronic, dub, folk and much more.
Following their collaboration with Tony Allen on The Tony Allen Experiments (2015), they released the album Nuova Napoli in 2018: a tribute to their hometown, where synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and electronics blend with vocals in Neapolitan dialect. The album was widely praised by critics and, in the following years, their success extended to live performances: their international tour brought them to some of the world’s most prestigious festivals and clubs including Pukkelpop (Belgium), Rock en Seine (France), Meredith (Australia), Queremos! (Brazil), Melt (Germany), Flow (Finland), Kalorama (Portugal), and many others—bringing to the stage their unique energy. In 2021, the single Marechià (featuring vocals by Célia Kameni) became an instant hit and followed by Tienatè which anticipated the release of their 2022 album Bar Mediterraneo.
