Originally brought together by Mute founder Daniel Miller for 2011's Mute Short Circuit Festival, the duo of Maps' James Chapman and fellow labelmate Polly Scattergood decided to continue their collaboration as On Dead Waves. With both artists releasing solo albums in 2013 -- Maps' Vicissitude and Scattergood's Arrows -- the pair finally reconvened at Chapman's home studio to start writing what would eventually become their debut album. Sharing the same musical vision, the pair drew inspiration from the likes of Low, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen to create a sound that would have a real cinematic feeling. Preceded by the singles "California," "Blackbird," and "Blue Inside," the self-titled album was released in May, 2016. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
