Exploding onto the scene with their self-titled EP in '94 (Revelation Records), Orange
9mm was founded by singer Chaka Malik (BURN, Ghost Decibels) & guitarist Chris
Traynor (formerly Fountainhead, Helmet, currently BUSH). Chaka was raised in
NYC housing projects & Chris continued the lineage of successful & influential musicians
from Long Island. The result was riff & rhythm-heavy w. danceable grooves undercutting, urban vocals. Adding Matthew Cross on drums & Davide Gentile on bass, 9mm recorded "Driver Not Included" (Atlantic), a seminal record in the post-hardcore & nu-metal genres, produced by Dave Jerden (Alice in Chains, Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers). Subsequent tours w. Korn, Deftones, Sevendust, Helmet, Quicksand and Biohazard broadened their fanbase. Toward the end of recording "Tragic" (Atlantic) w. producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, Incubus, Wolf Mother), Long Island multi-instrumentalist Taylor Mclam joined. His ear for melody & natural groove were apparent on their MTV/radio hit single "Failure" & his contribution to the "Tragic" LP. He remained a core writer through the subsequent full length "Pretend I'm Human" (Ng/Artemis Records). The band reformed in 2024 with addition of Long Island natives Chris Enriquez (drums; Spotlights, Julie Christmas) & Cory Bonfiglio (bass; Total Meltdown). With a new LP in the works and high demand for shows, Orange 9mm is set to deliver a more aggressive yet optimistic music to a world that needs it now more than ever.
