Peter Mikuláš studied singing as a student of Viktoria Stracvenská at the Bratislava Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU). In 1977, he won the Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary, as well as further singing competitions in 1982 in Moscow and 1984 in Helsinki.[1]
In 1978, he made his debut as Colline in La Bohème at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, where he has performed extensively to this day (as of the 2022/23 season).[2]
In the 2006/07 season, he was director of the Slovak National Theatre and participated in the complex organizational preparations for the opera season in the new opera house, which opened on April 14, 2007.[2]
Guest engagements have included, and have included, to Prague, New York, Vienna, Barcelona, Rome, Berlin, Madrid, Dresden, Salzburg, Leipzig, and Amsterdam.[1] On July 30, 2018, he made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Alexandr Petrovič Goryančikov in Janáček's From the House of the Dead.[3]
His concert repertoire includes both classical works (including those by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Antonín Dvořák, and Giuseppe Verdi) and numerous works of the 20th century, including works by Slovak composers.[2] In 1986, he made his debut at the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava.
Since 2011, Peter Mikuláš has been a professor of singing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava.[4]
