Phil Tyler is a kid from the 90s.
The decade often referred to as the golden era of hip-hop heavily influenced his own style and taste when it comes to beatmaking. With his distinctly rough, authentic and mostly melodic Boombap sound, he is taking that classic flavor to the present. Also being a skateboarder for 20+ years now, music and movement always felt like a natural amalgamation of style and culture for him.
However, it wasn’t until 2013 until he started making his own music, quickly adapting the production techniques of the greats, most dominantly Pete Rock, to shape his own sound. Discovering the beauty of sampling opened an entirely new world of sonic tessellation, in turn informing his jazz- and soul laden, melodic approach to his own music.
