Richard Laurence is a composer of neoclassical and ambient piano music with a colourful background in post-rock and electronic studio projects.
Working under the name Gifts From Crows, Laurence released his debut album, Holding a Thought Forever, in February 2021, a hauntingly beautiful collection of piano instrumentals augmented with electronics and string arrangements.
Two further albums followed, Stories in Slow Light and Etudes of the Crow, both of which were critically well received and enjoyed extensive plays on Scala and Jorvik Radio.
During the course of those recordings, Laurence grew substantially as a composer and his creative output was further enhanced through collaborations with photographers, dancers, videographers and other musicians. The fruits of this wider creative work can be found on the Giftsfromcrowsmusic.com website as well as on YouTube.
In 2023, Gifts From Crows Trio emerged as the live expression of the project and periodically perform at progressive festivals around the UK. An album of Trio Reworks was released that year, reimagining favourite pieces from the catalogue in exciting new arrangements.
2025 saw the release of 10 brand new compositions, created in collaboration with Gordon MacLellan and photographer Johanna Ronn. Whisper Along the Wind included 10 tone poems as well as instrumental versions.
