Robbing Millions is the moniker of Belgian musician Lucien Fraipont. In the hallowed legacy of avant-pop artists ranging from R. Stevie Moore to Scritti Politti, Fraipont is a true original making magic out of melodies. Fraipont’s path to Robbing Millions is as twisty as his music’s own structural shapes. He was active in the Belgian jazz-scene and has since played in several bands across the country including Aksak Maboul and Amatorski—but after tinkering with home-recording softwares, he found unexpected creative bliss in solitude. After the virtuosic double album Holidays Inside, the first outside release on the label from MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, MGMT Records, and the critically acclaimed Rêve Party“, Robbing Millions released a new treasure trove of musical gems called B-Sides EP (2016-2018).
Throughout the EP, Fraipont effortlessly navigates between English and French lyrics, further adding to a range of sounds and culture. Honing his talents as a producer, now also in charge of the mix for the first time, Fraipont channels the spirit of cult figures in home recording such as Gary Wilson and Ariel Pink, infusing the tracks with a raw, DIY energy.
From the infectious grooves of "Sense And Reason" to the dreamy textures of "Mr F," the B-Sides EP (2016-2018) showcases Robbing Millions at his most adventurous and unapologetically eclectic. It's a testament to Fraipont's boundless creativity and his unwavering commitment to sound exploration.
