Sam Himself shares Backstreets ahead of his third album, due out later this year. The “Swiss-born, Gotham-bred” (SPIN) alt./indie auteur’s new single showcases his signature “vocal power” (CoS) – which earned him the nickname ‘King of Tears’ in his home country – in an intimate yet anthemic production by Daniel Schlett (Iggy Pop, The War On Drugs), with bass by Josh Werner (Ghostface Killah) and mastering by Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie).

The release follows the two-time SMA nominee's sophomore effort, Never Let Me Go, a yearlong tour, a feature on And Just Like That (Soundtrack from the HBO® Max Original Series) and a collaboration with the Basel Symphony Orchestra.

In early 2020, the pandemic left Sam Himself, alias songwriter and performer Samuel Koechlin, stranded in Europe, unable to return to New York City, his chosen home of the past decade. Exile proved to be inspiring, however, and in 2021, Sam released his debut album, Power Ballads, a largely home-recorded yet “well-crafted set of atmospheric post-punk” (KEXP), to international acclaim.

Sam Himself’s EP Slow Drugs (2020), feat. vocalists Denitia and TEEN, as well as drummer Parker Kindred (Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith), had previously earned him the National Broadcasting Network's prestigious Best Talent Award.
