Yorick van Norden had a dream: to record an album at Abbey Road. That dream came true with Do It Now, out November 14 on Excelsior Recordings. The first single, The Keepers Of The Gates, is out now.
“Recording in Studio 2 with friends felt like the ultimate boyhood dream. In four days we cut fourteen songs—playing the Challen piano from A Day In The Life, the Mrs Mills piano from Penny Lane and Lady Madonna, the celeste from Pink Floyd’s Time, and the Hammond from Dark Side Of The Moon. Abbey Road honors its history while remaining one of the most state-of-the-art studios in the world. It’s the ultimate place to record music the way it was meant to be recorded.”
The Keepers Of The Gates reflects on the fading role of musical gatekeepers. Where tastemakers once guided us through the flood of music, algorithms now feed us more of the same. “We think we’re in control, but it’s the tech giants deciding for us. That’s a troubling global trend.”
