Scorpio Loon is an alias of London-based musician Matt J Bishop. He began the project in 2012, adopting the persona of deceased Argentinian songwriter Larry Alvarez. Debut release, 'Things I Like To Do,' garnered praise from intrigued bloggers, leading Bishop to continue under the Scorpio Loon guise.
Born in Essex during the 1980s, Bishop first gained public attention in 2006 as the frontman of the indie-rock band Switches before forming the more electronic Flash Fiktion in 2009, but left in 2012 to focus on solo work.
In 2012, Bishop recorded the lo-fi pop track 'Things I Like To Do' on his laptop. Uncertain about the future and hesitant to perform live, he sent the track to blogs with a fictional press release about the deceased Larry Alvarez, aka Scorpio Loon. The track received a strong online reaction, spurring Bishop to record more songs. Despite label interest and a placement for ‘Addicted To You’ on TV show ‘Suits’, Scorpio Loon remained underground.
Bishop has since pursued other musical projects, including a brief return to the stage with his psychedelic pop band The Lightning Year and a deal with Sony for the children's project Wonderpop .
