Seaside

For more than a decade, Seaside have quietly added their colors to Jakarta’s alternative music scene with their signature brand of shoegaze and dreampop. Formed in 2006, they introduced themselves with Undone (2013) on Anoa Records — an album built on reverb-heavy, delay-laden guitars, warm synthesizer textures, and intimate melodies that wrapped their confessional lyrics in waves of beautiful noise. Tracks like Giggle and Blush, Dreaming: Re-Recorded, and Undone became the understated staples of their early sound.

After several years away, Seaside returned to the studio in 2023 and joined HFMF Records, home to acts like Goodnight Electric, Jirapah, Frigi Frigi, Anggun Priambodo, and Peonies. Their first singles back — Nothing And Everything, Cul-de-sac and Foolishly — pointed toward a more open and reflective approach, with more space in the arrangements while holding onto the lush atmospheres and layered dynamics that have always defined them.

Released in 2025, Same Old/Same New continues in that quiet, evolving vein. The album refines their shoegaze and dreampop foundation with fuller, more deliberate arrangements, delicate harmonies, and a sense of maturity that feels earned rather than imposed — still shimmering and atmospheric, but more assured and vulnerable in its details.
