When Ratta Bill, Abi Chalabi, Smita Kirana, and Ariel Kaspar met in 2013, their only connection was participating in the same art exhibition. A year later, they released Perennial EP, a lo-fi, five-track debut that became a catalyst for Indonesia’s 2010s dream pop scene. With surf-inspired guitars, timid vocals, and thick echoes, it drew comparisons to DIIV, Beach Fossils, and The Drums—sparking a wave of similar indie pop acts. The EP’s success led to regular shows across Jakarta and nearby cities, all while helping a friend co-founding Kolibri Rekords, a label supporting Southeast Asia’s emerging alternative acts.
In 2018, their debut album Geography marked a shift to a richer, more polished sound—highlighted by layered guitars, tighter rhythms, and personal lyrics. Its lead single Out of Line earned a spot on Rolling Stone Indonesia’s Best Tracks of the Year and helped secure a reissue by French label Requiem Pour Un Twister, aligning them with global indie acts like Corridor and Vinyl Williams.
Post-pandemic, Bedchamber returned with Capa City via La Munai Records (Indonesia) and Balancing Act, a split EP with Singapore’s Subsonic Eye under Big Romantic Records (Japan). These releases showcased their continued evolution, blending jangly new wave, no wave, krautrock, and shoegaze into a sound uniquely their own.
