Led by bassist, songwriter, and vocalist Jerome Prister, Secret Weapon was a short-lived post-disco/funk act based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Seemingly inspired by large co-ed funk bands such as Slave and Mass Production, Secret Weapon were signed to the venerable Prelude label. They debuted in 1981 with their biggest hit, "Must Be the Music," which reached Billboard's R&B chart the following January, peaked at number 24, and became a dancefloor classic. Their lone, self-titled album featured another charting single in "'DJ' Man." Prister, who also recorded as Output and under his own name for Tuff City, died in 2007. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
