Best known as the youngest member of the K-pop group Girls' Generation, Seohyun also made a name for herself as an actress and solo artist. An only child, she learned to play piano, violin, and traditional Korean drums while growing up in Seoul, South Korea. She was discovered by a talent scout while still in grade school, and made her debut with Girls' Generation in 2007, when she was 16. The group was so successful that in 2012 it spawned the subgroup TTS (short for Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun, its members' names), which released EPs including 2012's Twinkle, 2014's Holler, and 2015's Dear Santa.
In addition to her work in Girls' Generation and TTS, Seohyun also pursued an acting career after graduating from Jeonju Arts High School in 2010. Along with appearing on television variety shows, she provided voice acting in the Korean dubs of Despicable Me and its sequel, Despicable Me 2. Later, she landed a role in the SBS drama series Passionate Love, and branched out into musical theater, playing the leads in the Korean versions of Mamma Mia and a French musical inspired by Gone with the Wind. She also won a Special Acting Award at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards for her work in the network's historical drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
Seohyun launched her solo music career in 2017 with the Don't Say No EP, a mix of bright K-pop and tropical pop sounds as well as moodier influences such as trap. Upon its release that January, it debuted at number three on Billboard's World Albums chart. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
