SERENDIB

SERENDIB is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, as well as a medical doctor and professor in acute medicine. Born in Sri Lanka, he entered the Faculty of Medicine in Colombo but was forced to abandon his studies due to the civil war, eventually fleeing the country in 1989. Despite these early setbacks, he later completed his MD and PhD, building a successful career as both a doctor and a researcher. He is currently a Professor of Medicine at a major university hospital in Amsterdam. While his medical career flourished, SERENDIB's love for music remained. In the early 2000s, he scored a modest hit with the ballad "How Can I Say." His 2013 mini-album featured socially and politically charged tracks like "Almost Paradise" and "Mister 63." His music, often described as a blend of folk and pop with conscious lyrics, draws inspiration from musical icons such as Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. In 2018, SERENDIB's upbeat and optimistic song "Wake Up and Shine" became a global success, amassing over 770,000 streams on Spotify and receiving airplay on many radio stations. “The Mad King” is a provocative new single that weaves a bold, fictional narrative about a charismatic figure who convinces a powerful and prosperous nation that only he can solve their problems. As the track progresses, this imagined leader makes impulsive, ill-conceived decisions with far-reaching consequences. All characters and events portrayed in “The Mad King” are entirely fictional.
