An indie band out of Silverlake, CA, that mixes a singular brand of smart garage/punk with sweeping lyrics and anthemic radio melodies, Shapes of Race Cars were formed after singer/guitarist/songwriter Dylan Champion dissolved his first band, Champion, and began working with bassist Dale Zyla and drummer Josh Grolemund. The trio self-released their debut EP of "bedroom demos", Apocalypse Hurts which garnered airplay and critical raves that helped transformed the fledgling band into the darlings on L.A.’s East Side live music scene. Their first full-length album, Power, quickly followed. Co-produced by Champion and Jun Murakawa at Hot Pie Studios in Pasadena it further defined the bands explosive, fun, “brain-punk” sound. The band soon expanded to a quartet with the addition of guitarist and background singer Chas Smith, with whom they recorded their most successful and cinematic record Beauty Beat in 2010. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
