Paul “Shilts” Weimar is a no-frills saxophonist from London who’s carved out a bold career in smooth jazz, funk, soul, and pop. Picking up his first sax in his early teens, he earned his stripes with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra at just 15—backing legends like Nancy Wilson and Mel Tormé .
His style—slick, polished, and brimming with swagger—landed him session work with rock royalty: David Bowie, Jimmy Page, Bill Wyman, and many more.
“Shilts” is best known as a powerhouse frontman for the UK’s funk-jazz outfit Down To The Bone, contributing to seven albums, and has also played with The Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai.
His solo debut HeadBoppin’ (2006), co-produced with Rick Braun, earned praise for its infectious grooves—straight-up danceable, sax-driven funk that lets his raw tone shine.
In 2004, Paul relocated to Southern California—swapping frequent flights for stage time—and became a regular on the smooth-jazz scene, sharing the touring circuit with artists like Peter White, Boney James, Richard Elliot & Jeff Lorber. In the mid 2000's , Paul acheived a personal goal when he began to play with Larry Carlton, in the US, Europe, Japan & China.
What sets him apart? He blends Euro-flair with club-ready energy—his riffs are tight, his grooves irresistible, and his tone rich and bold. Thirty years in, he’s still on the move: touring internationally, recording with top-tier artists, and crafting sax solos that hit both your head and your heart.
