1958年12月5日、広島県出身のシンガー・ソングライター。18歳だった1977年、「てぃーんず ぶるーす」でデビューし、「CANDY」「シャドー・ボクサー」を同年に連続リリース。これら3作が同時にオリコンTOP20入りする前代未聞の快挙を成し遂げ、一躍日本のポップシーンに旋風を巻き起こした。翌1978年には1stアルバム『Feel Happy』が初登場1位を獲得し、若き才能として全国的な人気を不動のものとする。その後も70作を超えるシングルやアルバムを発表しながら、吉川晃司、松田聖子、八神純子、中森明菜など多くのアーティストへ楽曲提供を行い、J-POPの発展に大きく貢献してきた。代表曲の一つ「タイム・トラベル」はSpitzがカバーし、ドラマ『僕とスターの99日』で採用されるなど、世代を超えて愛され続けている。瑞々しいメロディと先鋭的なサウンドで、時代を越えて新しいリスナーを惹きつけるアーティスト。
