Steven Bamidele is a Nigerian-born, London-based singer, songwriter, musician and producer. His isolated upbringing has shaped introspective songwriting, which pairs with his distinctive reverb-drenched falsetto, synth textures and syncopated beats to create a forward-thinking soulful sound. Citing the influences of contemporary creators Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Solange, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino, Steven puts social commentary and artistic narratives at the forefront of his music.
When writing THE CRASH! Steven was driven by the pressure of the second album. He reflected on why he was creating and focussed on considering the value of lyrics and messaging in music, digging deeper within his creative expression.
His debut LP Summing Up saw support from Clash Magazine, FIP Radio, BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 2, BBC 1Xtra, BBC 6Music, Jazz FM, KCRW, Rinse FM and NTS. Tracks were highlighted on Spotify’s BUTTER, Lowkey, Just Dropped and New Music Friday UK, as well as Apple Music’s Brown Sugar, New Latitude and New in R&B.
His stage presence and love for performing live have led him to headline Brighton Dome Studio, Prince Albert, Jazz re:freshed, Workman’s Club, Pizza Express Live Soho and The Gallimaufry. Steven has supported renowned artists Alice Russell, Sly5thAve, Hot 8 Brass Band, Marlon Craft, Kymara, Alice Auer and Ebi Soda, while making festival appearances at We Out Here, Love Supreme, Shambala, The Great Escape, Brick Lane Jazz and Reading & Leeds.
