A collaboration between <a href="spotify:artist:5J85JTgIYIUP276hmuIozn">Andrew Weatherall</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6AF3RoZxs7YtYSpXruqBy7">Timothy J. Fairplay</a> (formerly of the angular-rock band <a href="spotify:artist:4de67wnGuLR2TmxQ8qbxWD">Battant</a>), the Asphodells make psychedelic dance music inspired by dub, disco, and post-punk. <a href="spotify:artist:5J85JTgIYIUP276hmuIozn">Weatherall</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6AF3RoZxs7YtYSpXruqBy7">Fairplay</a> met when <a href="spotify:artist:4de67wnGuLR2TmxQ8qbxWD">Battant</a> enlisted the producer to do a remix of their song "Kevin (1989)." Some of their early tracks appeared on <a href="spotify:artist:5J85JTgIYIUP276hmuIozn">Weatherall</a>'s 2012 mix album Masterpiece, as well as on <a href="spotify:artist:1EULJuDFWpZ9xg4YwtUGGt">Daniel Avery</a>'s Fabriclive 66 mix. The duo's full-length debut Ruled by Passion, Destroyed by Lust -- which took its name from the tagline of a gay gladiator film poster from the '70s -- arrived in early 2013 on <a href="spotify:artist:5J85JTgIYIUP276hmuIozn">Weatherall</a>'s <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Rotters+Golf+Club%22">Rotters Golf Club</a> label. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
