Montreal ska combo the Kingpins was formed in the spring of 1994 by bassist Jordan Swift and drummer Eric Boulanger; keyboardist Ian Hodkinson, saxophonist Lorraine Muller and alto saxophonist Nigel Goddard were quickly recruited, and by 1995 the lineup also included singer Paddy Walsh, guitarist Bobby Beaton, trumpeter Jesse Radz and trombonist Maith Robert de Massis. In tandem with fellow Montreal ska band the Planet Smashers, the members of the Kingpins formed their own label, Stomp, to release the 1995 compilation The All-Skanadian Club Vol. 1; after completing the EP On the Run, de Massis left the group, paving the way for the addition of ex-Skavocados trombonist Nish Herat. The full-length Watch Your Back appeared in late 1996, with baritone saxophonist John Jordan signing on in time for the 1999 follow-up Let's Go to Work. The third Kingpins LP, Kings and Things, was issued in 2000. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
