The Phoenix Foundation is a six-piece band from Wellington, New Zealand, known for intelligent, inventive and richly detailed pop music shaped by diverse influences. Their sly lyricism, distinctive vocals and filmic soundscapes – cascading synths, chiming guitars, pulsating bass and dynamic rhythms – have evolved into a sound uniquely their own. Formed at high school by Samuel Scott, Luke Buda and Conrad Wedde, with Will Ricketts, Tom Callwood and Chris O’Connor, they’ve become one of New Zealand’s most beloved and idiosyncratic bands. They’ve performed on Later… with Jools Holland, at Glastonbury, scored films for Taika Waititi, earned global critical acclaim, and even had their song “Buffalo” covered by Lorde. With a deep catalogue including Horsepower, Pegasus, Happy Ending, Buffalo and more, they continue to craft music that is detailed, adventurous and unmistakably theirs.
