Call ‘em “garage-kissed power pop” ( San Francisco Chronicle), “atomic pop” ( Rolling Stone), or simply “wild and crazy” ( Chicago Tribune), The Safes have earned plenty of accolades for however you’d like to sum up their expert-level snappy songwriting and showmanship.
The Safes have landed music placements with Nike, Dr. Pepper, Quiksilver, Skullcandy, MarVista Entertainment, NBC, RedBull, CBS, Boost Mobile, PBS, National Geographic, TBS, Factory 25 & many others.
Brothers O'Malley with drummer Dex Fontaine, bassists Curt Schmelz & David Elliott are The Safes. These boys have that unique chemistry that comes when talented siblings form a band (think Kinks, The Breeders, Collins Kids, Blasters, Redd Kross...). The band’s “smart, melodic music” ( NPR) is rooted in ‘60s-70s inspirations such as The Who, Rockpile, Cheap Trick, Elvis Costello – artists who knew how to deliver big on record & on stage.
The brothers have recorded themselves at their own studio & have also worked with some top record producers like Steve Albini (Breeders, Nirvana), Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine), Keith Cleversley (Flaming Lips), Jim Diamond (Dirtbombs), Jason Ward (Arcade Fire, Kid Congo Powers), & David Suycott (Spies Who Surf, Machines of Loving Grace).
Touring since 2003, The Safes have established large, loyal fanbases across the USA, Japan & Spain on the strength of their songs and live show which is a sweaty explosion of energy & melody.
