Grimsby, Summer of 1979, John and Baz need an escape from their daily grind and decide punk is the answer. They quickly sought to recruit and welcomed Carl on Guitar and Lowey on drums.
At the first gig in Grimsby, powerful but musical style of the band won over the audience.
Summer of 1980 the Angel in a Raincoat EP was recorded and released in the November that year, publicised by many gigs and radio interviews. The EP had airplay from John Peel and local radio, the band played some great gigs around the country, the live set became tight and the band reputation grew.
Graham left the band, replaced by Mark Hawley, and further recordings were released by BPM records, on compact cassette, as “Staying awake”.
After months of travelling to gigs around the country, the crunch came on a bad night in Sheffield and the band split.
Fast forward to 2017 and John discovered that Angel had been covered by the Berlin based band “The Not Amused” this led to a collaboration with Queen Mum records and the force of nature that is “Kidnap”. The classic Angel in a Raincoat EP was re-released by Queen Mum Records and sold out!
The original band were all still active musicians and reformed after 35 years to play sell out gigs in Berlin, London and the home town.
In 2019 the band recorded new songs, produced by the incredible “Junk Scientist”. The 3 songs were remastered and released on vinyl in October ‘23 by Queen Mum Records as the “Never Get Over This” EP. (soon to be available online).
