The Stills-Young Band

Former cohorts in both Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash And Young, Stephen Stills (b. 3 January 1945, Dallas, Texas, USA; guitar/vocals) and Neil Young (b. 12 November 1945, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; guitar/vocals) began this brief association in 1975 when the latter made several impromptu appearances during one of the former’s promotional tours. An album followed on which the duo was joined by Stills’ regular band - Jerry Aeillo (keyboards), George Perry (bass), Joe Vitale (drums/flute) and Joe Lala (percussion) - and although initial sessions also featured David Crosby and Graham Nash, their contributions were latterly wiped, causing friction between the four former colleagues. A proposed reunion was scuppered and Crosby And Nash returned to their duet recordings. Long May You Run did contain several worthwhile songs, including the title track and ‘Black Coral’, but it lacked a sense of cohesion and was generally viewed as a disappointment. A promotional tour ended in disarray when Young abandoned the group after a handful of dates, leaving the enigmatic note: ‘Dear Stephen, funny how some things that start spontaneously end that way. Eat a peach, Neil’.
