Tracy Bonham is a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for blending alternative rock with her classical violin roots. Rising during the ‘90s alt-rock era alongside artists like Alanis Morissette and Liz Phair, she broke through with her debut album The Burdens of Being Upright (1996) and its iconic hit “Mother Mother,” a No. 1 modern rock single that defined her fearless sound.
Born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, Bonham studied classical piano and violin before moving east to refine her voice at Berklee College of Music. Her early EP, The Liverpool Sessions, led to a major-label deal and launched a career marked by emotional intensity, inventive arrangements, and genre-bending songwriting.
Bonham continued to push her sound on Down Here (2000), Blink the Brightest (2005), Masts of Manhatta (2010), Wax & Gold (2015), and Modern Burdens (2017)—a celebrated reimagining of her debut featuring indie-rock collaborators Tanya Donelly, Rachael Yamagata, Kay Hanley, Nicole Atkins, and more.
Her newest release, Sky Too Wide (2025), expands her sonic landscape with cinematic strings, rock energy, and deeply personal storytelling, marking a bold new chapter in her evolution.
Today, Tracy Bonham continues to create powerful, emotionally driven music that bridges alternative rock, indie, classical, and singer-songwriter worlds—soundtracking a new generation of listeners.
