Von Groove is a Canadian hard rock band formed in the early 1990s in Toronto, known for its powerful yet melodic sound blending AOR, arena rock, and classic hard rock influences. The band was founded by vocalist/drummer Michael Shotton, guitarist Mladen, and bassist Matthew Gerrard — all experienced musicians in the Canadian rock scene.
Their self-titled debut album, Von Groove (1992), released by EMI, gained international recognition, particularly in Europe and Japan, thanks to standout tracks like “Once Is Not Enough” and “Better Than Ever.” The record showcased the band’s signature mix of catchy hooks, soaring vocals, and polished production — a sound that would define their career.
Over the years, Von Groove released several well-received albums, including Rainmaker (1995), Chameleon (1998), Test of Faith (1999), and The Seventh Day (2001), solidifying their reputation among fans of melodic rock and AOR. While never achieving mainstream superstardom, the band has maintained a strong cult following, especially in Japan and among classic rock collectors.
Von Groove has been praised for Michael Shotton’s dynamic vocals and the band’s ability to craft memorable, radio-ready rock songs with depth and energy.
After a long hiatus, Von Groove officially reunited in 2024 and is currently working on a highly anticipated new studio album — marking an exciting new chapter in the band’s legacy.
